War With Apathy

In a discussion a few days ago, Mandy Vavrinak made an observation that I promised to write about. She has a knack with words and can typically apply precise wording to a particular effort or idea. She said I was "at war with apathy."

The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines apathy as:

  1. A lack of feeling or emotion
  2. A lack of interest or concern

Wikipedia defines apathy as: Complete lack of emotion or motivation about a person, activity, or object; depression; lack of interest or enthusiasm; disinterest.

Defining my passion has always been difficult for me.  I guess I'm too close.  Mandy pegged it in 5 words. Life without passion is no life. I'm at war with Apathy.

Hot or Cold?

Why be lukewarm? Why do anything if you're not going to do it with all your being?  I confess to times when I lack energy or passion for a given activity or project. Today for example, I've been tired and listless, but knowing I must write this article.  In fact when I write, I get energy - it's the beginning that's sometimes difficult.

Ron Hudson asked a question on Facebook the other day, "How many times do you say 'No?'" I realize that every Yes means No to so many other things. If I'm down as a "No," then don't expect anything from me. But if I'm a "Yes," then by all means I want my "Yes" to be "Yes" 100 percent; maybe more.  Whatever I do, I want to do it with all that I am.

Today, whatever you choose to do, do it with everything you have.  Bring your 'A' game or stay home. I realize that this blog is read by people with a common passion. The ideas behind the Lead Change Group center on a passion to make a positive difference. I may be preaching to the choir, but we all need to remember nevertheless.

Choose Once

Choose carefully.  Once you choose, commit. Resist the temptation to re-choose.

Honor your plan with your best effort. Passion and commitment add flavor to any accomplishment. Significant, meaningful achievements require your all.

"The quality of a person's life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor." ~ Vince Lombardi
