The Accidental Organization

It’s critical to recognize that “You get what you got until you decided to create what you want.”

Organizations come to be managed as a result of a long series of small and large decisions, decisions appropriate to the needs and the challenges at the time. But over the years, the accumulation of these decisions turns into what amounts to an accidental system of management.

The reason it is accidental is that the accumulation of independent decisions were never destined to work together smoothly as an integrated, interdependent whole. So when all is said and done, we end up with an accidental system of management that results in an accidental culture.
