What we compare

No sales commission product is verified yet. These are the capabilities each one will be checked against, in the vendor’s own documentation.

Capabilities in the comparison

  • Commission plan modeling

Models rates, tiers, accelerators, SPIFs and quotas without custom code.

  • CRM and billing sync

Pulls deal, booking or invoice data from the CRM or billing system.

  • Automated calculation

Calculates commissions for each payee and period from plan rules.

  • Rep statements

Shows each payee their earnings with deal-level detail.

  • Splits and clawbacks

Handles shared credit and recovers commissions on cancelled deals.

  • Dispute management

Lets payees raise disputes and tracks resolution and adjustments.

  • Payout approvals

Routes payouts for approval before they are released.

  • Payroll export

Sends approved amounts to payroll by employee and pay period.

  • Accrual and expense reporting

Reports commission expense and accruals by period for finance.

  • Audit trail

Logs changes to plans, rates, credits and payouts.

How to choose sales commission software

Commission tools succeed or fail on two things: whether they can model your real plans without workarounds, and whether reps trust the statements. Everything else is secondary.

Bring your actual plan documents and a month of real deal data to the demo, and ask the vendor to reproduce last month's payouts.

  1. Plan modeling flexibility

Tiers, accelerators, splits, SPIFs and quota changes mid-period are where spreadsheets break and where weak tools need custom work.

  2. CRM and billing data integration

Calculations are only as accurate as the deal, booking or invoice data behind them.

  3. Rep statements and transparency

Reps who can trace each payout to deals and rates raise fewer disputes.

  4. Disputes, adjustments and clawbacks

Corrections are routine, and handling them by email destroys the audit trail.

  5. Approvals and payroll export

Approved amounts must reach payroll accurately and on time.

  6. Accounting and accrual reporting

Finance needs commission expense by period, and some teams capitalize and amortize commission costs.

Requirements by company size

  • Small businesses

    • Fast setup for a few simple plans
    • Native connection to your CRM or accounting system
    • Clear rep statements

    Watch out for

    • Minimum seat counts or annual contracts
    • Implementation fees larger than the license
    • Tools built for complex enterprise plans
  • Mid-sized companies

    • Tiers, accelerators, splits and clawbacks without custom code
    • Dispute workflow and approvals
    • Payroll integration

    Watch out for

    • Plan changes that require vendor services
    • CRM sync that misses late deal changes
    • Accrual reporting sold as an add-on
  • Enterprises

    • Many plans, roles and currencies in one system
    • Territory and quota management
    • Audit trail, segregation of duties and finance reporting

    Watch out for

    • Long implementations for plan logic
    • Performance with large deal volumes
    • Dependence on a single implementation partner

Red flags

  • The vendor cannot reproduce last month's payouts from your real data
  • Rep statements show totals without deal-level detail
  • Disputes are handled outside the tool by email
  • Every plan change requires paid vendor services
  • No audit log of rate or payout changes

How we research

Ranked by the LeadChange Score, computed only from verified facts: capability coverage (30%), pricing and value (20%), integrations and API (15%), security (15%), fit and support (10%) and data confidence (10%), times a category fit. Products with too few verified facts are not scored yet and come last. Payment never changes a score or a position.

Read the full methodology

  • Facts, not impressions

Every input is a fact verified against vendors’ official documentation, with the date we last checked it.

  • Missing data is never assumed

Unverified items are left out of the score and lower its coverage; below 60% coverage a product is not scored yet.

  • Independent of revenue

Rankings never depend on whether a vendor pays us.
