Research in progress
We are verifying labor law compliance products against vendors’ official documentation and pricing pages. A ranking by LeadChange Score appears here once at least 3 products pass our research checks. Until then, this page explains what the software does, what we evaluate and how to choose.

Who needs labor law compliance software?
You need labor law compliance tooling when you can no longer say with confidence which rules apply at each location. The usual triggers are hiring in a new state or city, opening another site, moving staff to remote work, or a notice from an agency that you could not answer quickly.
Posters are the most visible obligation. The U.S. Department of Labor notes that some of the laws it enforces require notices to be provided to employees or posted in the workplace, that posting requirements vary by statute, and that state poster rules come from state labor departments. The EEOC requires covered employers to post its Know Your Rights notice in a conspicuous location, and says electronic posting may be the only posting for employees who work remotely and do not visit the workplace regularly.
A lighter approach can work for a single-location employer with no remote staff: the free federal posters from the Department of Labor, your state labor department's posters and a calendar reminder to check for updates. Buy a tool when locations, remote workers or local ordinances make tracking by hand unreliable.
How to choose labor law compliance software
Labor law compliance tools are only as good as their rules content and how they prove what you did. Choose on coverage for the exact places your people work, on how quickly and clearly the vendor tells you about changes, and on the evidence the tool keeps.
Bring your real location list to the demo, including remote employees' home states, and ask the vendor to show the posters and alerts each one would get.
Federal, state and local coverage
Federal posters are only part of the picture. State and city rules often add notices and policy obligations that a federal-only tool misses.
Rules content ownership and review
Out-of-date content creates false confidence, which is worse than knowing you have a gap.
Law-change alerts with plain impact
An alert is useful only if it says what changed, who it affects and what to do by when.
Poster and notice updates
Posters change when rules or required wording change, and an old version on the wall can still leave you exposed.
Remote and hybrid worker delivery
Employees who never visit a worksite still need access to required notices, and the EEOC describes electronic posting as the method that may reach them.
Language versions
Some government posters are published in languages other than English, and a multilingual workforce needs the right version.
Requirements by company size
Small businesses
- Complete federal and state poster set for each location
- Automatic replacement when a poster changes
- Simple digital posters for any remote staff
Watch out for
- Paying for posters that are free from government sites without any update service
- Auto-renewing poster subscriptions you did not choose
- Alerts written for lawyers rather than owners
Mid-sized companies
- City and county coverage for every site
- Law-change alerts tied to your locations
- HRIS sync of work and home locations
Watch out for
- Local ordinances excluded from the base plan
- Per-location fees that grow with every new site
- No proof of delivery for remote workers
Enterprises
- Multi-state, multi-entity rules library with change history
- Audit-ready reporting by location and entity
- Integration with policy management and HR service desks
Watch out for
- Content that lags behind effective dates
- Gaps for unionized or industry-specific notices
- Separate contracts for posters, alerts and policy content
Red flags
- The vendor cannot list exactly which jurisdictions it covers
- Alerts arrive without effective dates or required actions
- No record of which poster version was posted or delivered, and when
- Remote workers are handled by emailing a PDF once with no tracking
- Marketing implies the product guarantees compliance or replaces legal advice
- Sales pitches that imply federal posters must be bought, when the Department of Labor provides them free

Frequently asked questions
What is labor law compliance software?
Labor law compliance software tracks the federal, state and local employment rules that apply to each of your locations, keeps required posters and notices current, and alerts you when rules change. Most tools also keep a record of what was posted, sent and acknowledged. It helps you organize compliance work, but it does not replace advice from employment counsel.
What labor law posters are required?
It depends on the laws that cover your business and where your people work. The Department of Labor says posting requirements vary by statute and offers the elaws Poster Advisor to identify federal posters. State poster rules come from your state labor department, and covered employers must also post the EEOC Know Your Rights notice. Local ordinances can add more.
Are labor law posters free?
Federal posters are. The Department of Labor provides free electronic copies of its required posters, and the EEOC publishes its Know Your Rights poster online. Paid services charge for gathering federal, state and local posters into one set, printing them, tracking changes and sending replacements. Compare that service against doing it yourself before you buy.
Do remote employees need labor law posters?
Often, yes, in electronic form. The EEOC says electronic posting usually supplements the physical posting, but may be the only posting for employees who telework and do not visit the workplace regularly. Other agencies have their own rules for electronic notices, so check each poster's requirements and confirm with counsel.
How do I know when labor laws change in my state?
State labor departments publish their own poster and rule updates, and many local governments do the same. Labor law compliance tools monitor these sources and send alerts by location. When you evaluate a tool, ask for past alerts and check that each states the effective date, who is affected and the action required.
What is the difference between labor law compliance and HR compliance software?
Labor law compliance tools focus on tracking employment rules by jurisdiction, posters and law-change alerts. HR compliance software is broader and can include I-9, ACA reporting, policy management, training and record retention. If posters and alerts are your only gap, a focused tool may be enough; if you need proof across many obligations, look at a broader platform.
Is a labor law poster compliance service worth it?
It is worth it when you have several locations, remote staff in other states or local ordinances to track, because keeping every poster current by hand gets unreliable. A single-location employer can often manage with free government posters and a regular check of state labor department updates.
How we research
Products are ranked by the LeadChange Score, computed only from verified facts: capability coverage (30%), pricing transparency and value (20%), integrations and API (15%), security and compliance (15%), fit and support (10%) and data confidence (10%), times a category fit that lowers products built for another job. Payment never changes a score or a position.
Facts, not impressions
Every input is a fact verified against vendors’ official documentation, with the date we last checked it.
Missing data scores zero
We never assume a feature; unverified items lower the confidence label.
