People Analytics Software
People analytics software combines workforce data from HR, payroll, recruiting and other systems to measure headcount, turnover, hiring, pay and engagement. It provides dashboards, benchmarks and modeling so HR and finance can answer questions about the workforce with consistent, governed data instead of manual reports.

Research in progress
We are verifying people analytics products against vendors’ official documentation and pricing pages. A ranking by LeadChange Score appears here once at least 3 products pass our research checks. Until then, this page explains what the software does, what we evaluate and how to choose.
What we evaluate
Data source connectors
Connects to HRIS, payroll, applicant tracking and survey systems to pull data on a schedule.
Metric library and definitions
Provides documented HR metrics such as turnover and time to fill with visible calculation rules.
Historical data model
Keeps point-in-time history so headcount and trends can be reported for past dates.
Self-service reporting
Lets HR users build reports and cuts of data without writing code.
Dashboards and visualization
Presents metrics in shareable dashboards for HR and business leaders.
Predictive modeling
Provides models, such as attrition risk, with disclosed inputs and accuracy.
Fairness and adverse impact analysis
Tests outcomes such as hiring, pay and promotion for differences across groups.
Access and privacy controls
Limits sensitive data by role and suppresses small groups to protect individuals.
Data export and warehouse access
Sends data to a customer data warehouse or exports it in bulk.
Survey data integration
Combines survey results with HR data for analysis.
Who needs people analytics software?
You need people analytics when leaders ask workforce questions that take days of spreadsheet work, such as turnover by team, time to hire or headcount against budget. Other signals are conflicting numbers between HR and finance, and data spread across several systems.
The prerequisite is reasonably clean data. Analytics tools cannot repair inconsistent job titles or missing manager fields.
Lighter tools are enough when your HRIS reports already answer your top ten questions, or when headcount is small enough that a monthly spreadsheet works. Many HRIS products include basic dashboards. Buy dedicated analytics when you need to combine sources or model scenarios.
How to choose people analytics software
List the ten questions leaders ask most often, then check that each can be answered from your data. The best platform is the one that answers them reliably.
Data connections, definitions and access control matter more than chart variety.
Data source connections
Analytics is only as good as the systems it reads.
Metric definitions and governance
Disagreement over how turnover or headcount is calculated destroys trust.
Data model and history
Trend analysis needs point-in-time history, not only current state.
Access control and privacy
Workforce data is sensitive, and small groups can identify individuals.
Self-service reporting
HR should not be the bottleneck for every question.
Predictive and modeling features
Attrition or workforce scenarios may help, but must be explainable.
Requirements by company size
Small businesses
- Prebuilt dashboards for headcount and turnover
- Direct connection to your HRIS
- Low setup effort
Watch out for
- Platforms that assume a data team
- Dashboards too thin to add value over HRIS reports
Mid-sized companies
- Several source connections
- Governed metric definitions
- Self-service reporting for HR and managers
Watch out for
- Inconsistent data across systems
- Per-user pricing for viewers who only need dashboards
Enterprises
- Warehouse and API access
- Row-level security and privacy thresholds
- Predictive and scenario tools with explainability
Watch out for
- Cross-region privacy and works council requirements
- Long implementation if data is not harmonized
Red flags
- Metric definitions are fixed and cannot be reviewed.
- The vendor cannot show how history of job and manager changes is stored.
- Predictions are shown without the data or drivers behind them.
- Small groups are displayed without a privacy threshold.
- The vendor cannot say who owns the data and how it is deleted at contract end.

Frequently asked questions
What is people analytics software?
It is software that combines workforce data from HR and related systems to measure and model headcount, turnover, hiring, pay and engagement. It provides governed dashboards so HR and finance can answer workforce questions consistently, without rebuilding the same spreadsheet every month.
Do I need people analytics software?
You need it if leaders' workforce questions take days to answer or HR and finance numbers conflict. If your HRIS reports already answer your main questions, built-in dashboards may be enough, and a dedicated platform would add cost without adding answers.
How much does people analytics software cost?
Pricing is typically per employee per month or an annual fee by headcount band, with predictive modules and integrations priced separately. Costs vary widely by scope. Ask which data sources and modules are included in your quote, and what implementation services cost.
What is the difference between people analytics and HRIS reporting?
HRIS reporting covers data in one system. People analytics combines several sources, keeps history, governs definitions and supports modeling. If you only need current headcount and simple reports, HRIS reporting may be sufficient and far cheaper to run. Ask each vendor to show this against your own data in a demo, and get the answer in writing before you sign.
Can people analytics predict attrition?
Some tools estimate attrition risk, but results depend on data quality and method. Ask what data the model uses, how accuracy is tested and how drivers are shown. Treat predictions as prompts for conversation, not as grounds for decisions about individual employees.
Is analysis by protected group allowed?
Analysis by group is commonly used to check pay and hiring for disparities, and EEOC enforces equal pay across all forms of compensation. Restrict access, apply minimum group sizes and involve counsel for your specific use, since the risk lies in how results are used.
What data do I need before starting?
You need consistent employee records with job, department, location, manager, hire and termination dates, and pay history. Cleaning titles and org structure first prevents most reporting disputes, and it is usually the longest part of the project. Ask each vendor to show this against your own data in a demo, and get the answer in writing before you sign.
Is people analytics worth it for a mid-sized company?
It is worth it when leaders need reliable answers across several systems and manual reporting consumes HR time. Estimate the analyst hours it replaces and the decisions it improves before comparing prices, and ask for references from companies with similar data complexity.
How we research
Products are ranked by the LeadChange Score, computed only from verified facts: capability coverage (30%), pricing transparency and value (20%), integrations and API (15%), security and compliance (15%), fit and support (10%) and data confidence (10%), times a category fit that lowers products built for another job. Payment never changes a score or a position.
Facts, not impressions
Every input is a fact verified against vendors’ official documentation, with the date we last checked it.
Missing data scores zero
We never assume a feature; unverified items lower the confidence label.
Independent of revenue
Rankings are computed before and without knowing which vendors pay us.
