What we compare

No mentoring product is verified yet. These are the capabilities each one will be checked against, in the vendor’s own documentation.

Capabilities in the comparison

  • Mentor matching

Matches mentors and mentees by criteria, preference or algorithm.

  • Program types and cohorts

Supports one-to-one, group and cohort programs.

  • Engagement tracking and nudges

Prompts participants to meet and tracks sessions and participation.

  • Goal setting and guidance

Sets goals and offers session guidance.

  • Session scheduling

Schedules mentoring sessions with calendar integration.

  • Reporting

Reports participation, sessions and satisfaction for program owners.

  • HRIS and SSO sync

Syncs users and attributes from HR and identity systems.

  • Privacy controls

Controls who can see participant data.

  • Mobile and accessibility

Works on mobile and supports assistive technology.

  • Program administration

Provides tools for administrators to manage programs.

How to choose mentoring software

Decide what the program must prove before you look at features: retention, internal moves, skill growth or inclusion. The metric determines which data the platform must capture and export.

Then test the administrator experience, not only the participant experience. The coordinator carries the program, and the software should reduce that workload.

  1. Matching method

Matching quality drives participation. Algorithms, mentee-led browsing and admin-assigned pairs each suit different programs.

  2. Program types and cohorts

One organization often runs several programs with different rules, such as one-to-one, group and reverse mentoring.

  3. Engagement tracking and nudges

Pairs that stop meeting are the main failure mode.

  4. Goal setting and session guidance

Structure turns informal chats into development.

  5. Reporting and outcome data

    Leaders want results, not logins.

  6. HRIS and identity integration

Profile data and eligibility should come from the system of record, not manual uploads.

Requirements by company size

  • Small businesses

    • Simple setup with a short list of program templates
    • Manual match override
    • Basic participation reporting

    Watch out for

    • Per-user pricing that outgrows a pilot
    • Features aimed at large programs that add setup time
  • Mid-sized companies

    • Multiple concurrent programs with separate rules
    • HRIS sync for eligibility
    • Survey and outcome reporting

    Watch out for

    • Matching that cannot use your own profile fields
    • Reports that cannot be filtered by department or location
  • Enterprises

    • Single sign-on and provisioning
    • Role-based admin access across business units
    • Data export to analytics tools
    • Accessibility documentation

    Watch out for

    • Implementation scope that depends on professional services
    • Data residency and retention terms that differ by region

Red flags

  • Matching is described as proprietary but the vendor cannot explain which inputs it uses
  • No way to see which pairs are inactive
  • Reporting is limited to login counts and satisfaction scores
  • Administrators can read private messages by default and the vendor cannot show the access controls
  • Data export is unavailable or only on a higher plan

How we research

Ranked by the LeadChange Score, computed only from verified facts: capability coverage (30%), pricing and value (20%), integrations and API (15%), security (15%), fit and support (10%) and data confidence (10%), times a category fit. Products with too few verified facts are not scored yet and come last. Payment never changes a score or a position.

Read the full methodology

  • Facts, not impressions

Every input is a fact verified against vendors’ official documentation, with the date we last checked it.

  • Missing data is never assumed

Unverified items are left out of the score and lower its coverage; below 60% coverage a product is not scored yet.

  • Independent of revenue

Rankings never depend on whether a vendor pays us.
